Preliminary Task: Evaluation

In our group, we were asked to film and edit a character walking into a room and sitting across from another character and exchanging some dialogue. We had to include the 180 degree rule, match-on-action and shot-reverse-shot. One of the key things that we have to make sure the filming and editing follow continuity.

Before we started filming, we had to generate some initial ideas that we can use for the task. After choosing the appropriate idea, we had to create a story board in 12 shots, the consisted of the shot, type of shot, angle of shot and where the shot is. We then had to do some location planning to ensure the space we needed was available when we needed to film. In addition, we then had to choose the right people to cast to star in our task. 

The filming process was reasonably easy, however we had an issue when one of the vats didn't turn up to filming, so we had to compromise and a use someone else for the role. Everyone took a turn when filming and followed the correct shot list and use the right angle and type of shot. However, one of the cast member did not follow the simple script and said different things every time we filmed. Therefore, it made the editing extremely difficult as match-one-action was hard to do as none of the dialogue matched.

When editing the footage, as mentioned before it was difficult to use match-on-action due to the dialogue not going together fluently. Yet, I did manage to use Premier Pro well and understand how to do some things on the program. Continuity was used and we made sure the 180 degree rule was noticeable in the footage. 

I think that the set brief was met as continuity was there as well as shot-reverse-shot and match-on-action. We included the two characters sitting across from each other and exchanging dialogue like we needed to do. I think that the match-on-action was met very well as we had good footage (other than some of the dialogue).Our weaknesses was the casting as the character casted should of shown up, it caused some problem within the group due to panic that we won't have it done it time. The improvement we need for the main task would probably be that we need a strong idea that everyone can contribute to, it needs to be professional, so maybe a smaller group would be needed.
